Resisting Arrest

the knowing and physical resistance to a lawful arrest

Resolution

The formal decision of an organization. A motion which has obtained the necessary majority vote in favor.

Respite

an agreement between a debtor and creditor that grants an individual time to satisfy debts due to a momentary inability to pay

Restitution

1) returning or recovering to a former state 2)the return of a possession to the owner or other individual entitled to said possession 

Retainer

A contract between a lawyer and his client, wherein the lawyer agrees to represent and provide legal advice to the client, usually in exchange for money.

Rider

A written amendment as to the coverage of an existing life or health insurance policy.

Right Against Self-incrimination

provided by the fifth amendment in the US Constitution; it allows an individual to refuse to answer questions or provide other evidence that would lead to criminal prosecution without presupposing guilt 

Riot

Three or more persons who assemble and advance a purpose together, using force if necessary, and raising alarm of a reasonable person.

Robbery

Theft under threat or use of force.

Rout

A common law and public order criminal offense which has gone beyond an unlawful assembly in that some action has been taken towards either the crime intended or the disturbance of the peace.
