187.321—What are the hull identification number (HIN) provisions?
A State must—
(a)
Upon proof of ownership, assign an HIN and require that it be affixed to a vessel that does not have an HIN at the time of application for certificate of number or title; and
(b)
Prohibit removal or alteration of an HIN without authorization from the Commandant.
