      Sec. 10a-112g. State Museum of Art. Advisory committee. (a) The William Benton Museum of Art, The University of Connecticut shall be the State Museum of Art. The museum shall collect, preserve and research works of art and prepare public exhibits at the museum and educational exhibits and programs that may be used by colleges, universities, schools, libraries, institutions, appropriate state agencies or other public organizations.

      (b) There is established an advisory committee to advise the president of The University of Connecticut with respect to the policies, collections, programs, activities and operations of the State Museum of Art. The advisory committee shall consist of eleven members as follows: The Commissioner of Education and the Commissioner of Higher Education, or their designees; two members of the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism appointed by said commission; and seven persons nominated by the president of The University of Connecticut and appointed by the Governor, one of whom shall be a member of the board of trustees of the university, one of whom shall be an alumnus of the university and five of whom shall be private citizens representing various geographic areas of the state and widely known for their knowledge, competence and experience in connection with the visual arts. The advisory committee shall elect a member who is a private citizen as its chairperson.
