        263.2  DEGREES.
         No one shall be admitted to courses of instruction in the
      university who has not completed the elementary instruction in such
      branches as are taught in the common schools throughout the state.
      Graduates shall receive degrees or diplomas, or other evidences of
      distinction such as are usually conferred and granted by universities
      and are authorized by the state board of regents.
