Chapter 47.--LIVESTOCK AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS
Article 6.--PROTECTION OF DOMESTIC ANIMALS

      47-617.   Animals killed by order of commissioner;certificate; payment or indemnity to owner; specific diseaseprocedures.When any domestic animal, other than dogs and animals affected withfoot-and-mouth disease, is killed by order of the commissioner,the commissioner shall issue to the owner of the animal or animals thecertificate showing the number and kind of animals killed, and theamount to which the holder is entitled. The state of Kansas shall pay to theowner the amount to which the owner is entitled as determined by thecommissioner as provided by this section unless payment or indemnity for suchdomestic animal may be obtained from the United States government. In caseof animalskilled or disposed of that are exposed to or afflicted with thefoot-and-mouthdisease, the appraisement shall be conducted in accordance with theapplicable rules and regulations ofan applicable livestock indemnity program ofthe UnitedStates government. The state of Kansas shall pay allitsexpenses incurred in that behalf, and shall pay all itsemployees necessarily employed therein.
