Chapter 47.--LIVESTOCK AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS
Article 8.--REGISTRATION OF VETERINARIANS

      47-817.   Practice without license prohibited;exceptions.No person shall practice veterinary medicine in this state who isnot currently and validly alicensed veterinarian. This act shall not be construed to prohibit:

      (a)   An employee of the federal, state or local governmentperforming such employee's official duties.

      (b)   A person from gratuitously giving aid,assistance or relief in veterinary emergency cases if such person does notrepresent themselves to be veterinarians or use any title or degreeappertaining to the practice thereof.

      (c)   A veterinarian regularly licensed in another state consultingwith a licensed veterinarian in this state.

      (d)   Fisheries biologists activelyemployed by the state of Kansas, the United States government, or any person inthe production or management of commercial food or game fish while in theperformance of such persons' official duties.

      (e)   Any feeder utilizingand mixing antibiotics or other disease or parasite preventing drugs asa part of such feeder's feeding operations.

      (f)   The owner of an animal and the owner's regular employee caringfor and treating the animal belonging to such owner, except where theownership of the animal was transferred to avoid this act.

      (g)   A member of the faculty of a school of veterinary medicineperforming such member's regular functions or a person lecturing, or givinginstructions or demonstrations at a school of veterinary medicine or inconnection with a continuing education course for veterinarians.

      (h)   Any person engaging in bona fide scientific research whichreasonably requires experimentation involving animals or commercialproduction of biologics or animal medicines.

      (i)   A nonstudent employee, independent contractor or anyother associate of the veterinarian or a student ina school of veterinary medicine who has not completed at least three years ofstudy and who performs prescribed veterinaryprocedures under the direct supervision of a licensed veterinarianor under the indirect supervision of a licensed veterinarian pursuant torules and regulations of the board.

      (j)   A student who has completed at leastthree years of study in a school of veterinarymedicine and who performs prescribed veterinary procedures assigned bysuchstudent's instructors or who works under direct orindirect supervisionof a licensed veterinarian.
