Article 11.--REGULATION OF NURSING

      65-1133.   Same; educational and training programs foradvanced registerednurse practitioners; approval; survey; nationally accredited programs.(a) An approved educational and training program foradvancedregistered nurse practitionersis a program conducted in Kansas which has been approved by the board asmeeting thestandards and the rules and regulations of the board. Aninstitution desiring to conduct an educational and training program foradvancedregistered nurse practitioners shall apply to the board forapproval and submit satisfactory proof that it isprepared to andwill maintain the standards and the required curriculum for advanced registerednurse practitioners as prescribed by this act and by the rules and regulationsof the board.Applications shall be made in writing on forms supplied by the board andshall be submitted to the board together with the application fee fixedby the board. The approval of an educational programfor advanced registered nurse practitioners shall notexceed 10 years afterthe granting of such approval by the board. Aninstitution desiring tocontinueto conduct an approved educationalprogram for advancedregisterednurse practitioners shall apply to the board for the renewal ofapproval and submit satisfactory proof that it will maintain thestandards and therequiredcurriculum for advanced registered nurse practitioners as prescribed bythis act and by the rules and regulations of the board.Applications for renewal of approval shall be madein writing on formssupplied by the board. Each program shallsubmit annually to the board an annual fee fixed by theboard'srules and regulations to maintain the approved status.

      (b)   A program to qualify as anapproved educational program for advanced registerednursepractitioners must be conducted in the state of Kansas, and the schoolconducting the program must apply to the board and submit evidence that:(1) It is prepared to carry out the curriculum prescribed by rules andregulations of the board; and (2) it is prepared to meet such otherstandards as shall be established by law and the rules and regulationsof the board.

      (c)   The board shall prepare and maintain a list of programs which qualifyas approved educational programsfor advanced registerednurse practitioners whose graduates, if they have the other necessaryqualificationsprovided inthis act, shall be eligible to apply for certificates of qualificationas advanced registered nurse practitioners. A survey of theinstitution or school applying for approval of aneducationalprogram for advanced registered nurse practitioners shall be made by anauthorized employee of the board ormembers of the board, who shall submit a written report of the survey tothe board. If, in the opinion of the board, the requirements asprescribed by the board in its rules and regulations forapproval aremet, it shall so approvethe program.The board shall resurvey approved programs on a periodic basis as determinedby rules and regulations.If the board determines that any approved programis not maintaining the standards required by this act and by rules andregulations prescribed by the board, notice thereof in writing,specifying the failures of such program, shall be given. A program whichfails to correct such conditions to the satisfactionof the board within a reasonable time shall be removed from the list ofapproved programs until such time as the program shallcomplywith such standards. All approvedprograms shall maintain accurate andcurrent records showing in full the theoretical and practical coursesgiven to each student.

      (d)   The board may accept nationally accredited advance registered nursepractitioner programs as defined in rule and regulation:

      (1)   Advanced registered nurse practitioner programs which have receivedaccreditation from a board recognized national nursing accreditation agencyshall file evidence of initial accreditation with the board, and thereaftershall file all reports from the accreditation agency and any notice of anychange in school accreditation status.

      (2)   Advanced registered nurse practitioner programs holding approval basedupon national accreditation are also responsible for complying with all otherrequirements as determined by rules and regulations of the board.

      (3)   The board may grant approval to an advanced registered nurse practitionerprogram with national accreditation for a continuing period not to exceed 10years.
