      65-5404.   Occupational therapist council established; appointment ofmembers; compensation.(a) There is established an occupational therapist council to advise theboard in carrying out the provisions of this act. The council shallconsist of five members, all citizens and residents of the state of Kansasappointed as follows: One member shall be a physician appointed by thestate board of healing arts; one member shall be the president of thestate board of healing arts or a person designated by the president;and three members shall be occupationaltherapists appointed by the governor. The governor shall, insofar aspossible, appoint persons from different geographical areas and persons whorepresent various types of occupational therapy treatment. If a vacancyoccurs on the council, the appointing authority of the position which hasbecome vacant shall appoint a person of like qualifications to fill thevacant position for the unexpired term, if any. The Kansas occupational therapyassociation shall recommend the names of occupational therapists to thegovernor in a number equal to at least twice the positions or vacancies tobe filled, and the governor may appoint members to fill the positions orvacancies from the submitted list. The terms of the members of the councilappointed by the governor prior to the effective date of this act shallexpire on July 1, 1988. Members of the council appointed by the governoron and after the effective date of this act shall be appointed for terms ofthree years and until their successors are appointed and qualified exceptthat of the members first appointed by the governor on or after theeffective date of this act one shall be appointed for a term of one year,one shall be appointed for a term of two years and one shall be appointedfor a term of three years, as designated by the governor. The memberappointed by the state board of healing arts shall serve at the pleasure ofthe state board of healing arts. A member designated by the president ofthe state board of healing arts shall serve at the pleasure of the president.

      (b)   Members of the council attending meetings of the council, orattending a subcommittee meeting thereof authorized by the council, shallbe paid amounts provided in subsection (e) of K.S.A. 75-3223 and amendmentsthereto from the healing arts fee fund.
