Article 61.--EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES

      65-6115.   Continuation of certain existing services by municipality;tax levy; referendum.The governing body of any municipality is hereby authorized tocontinue, in accordance with the provisions of this act, operation of anyemergency medical service or ambulance service or centralized emergencyservice communications system previously established, operated andmaintained, or continue any contract with any person, other municipality orboard of a county hospital for the furnishing of emergency medical servicesor ambulance service previously executed, pursuant to the authority of anystatute repealed by this act. Such governing body is hereby authorized tocontinue to levy under authority of this section any tax for the operationand maintenance of such services or contracts previously authorized andlevied pursuant to any statute repealed by this act in any amount notexceeding the amount specified in the ordinance or resolution providing forthe levy in such municipality under such repealed statute. No increase inthe amount of the tax previously authorized for the operation andmaintenance of such services or contracts shall be levied until thegoverning body of such municipality adopts a new ordinance or resolutionwhich authorizes such increase and is subject to referendum in accordancewith the provisions of subsection (c) of K.S.A. 65-6113.
