      68-560.   Certain townships may turn over maintenance, repair andconstruction of roads to county; election; resolution; petition;abandonment.(a) In any county not operating under the county road unit system, anytownship in such county, pursuant to a written agreementwith the board of county commissioners, mayturn over the maintenance, repair and construction of township roads to thecounty as provided by this subsection. Any such agreementshall specifically state the duration of such agreement.The question of turning over the maintenance, repair and construction ofthe township roads to the county shall be submitted to a vote of thequalified electors of the township at the general election whenever thereshall have been submitted to the board of county commissioners at least60 days prior to the date of such general election a petition signedby 10% of the qualified electors of such township or a resolution ofthe township board calling for such election.

      (b)   Any township which hasadopted the provisions of this act may abandon the provisions ofthis act, and take over the maintenance, repair and construction oftownship roads, as provided by this subsection. Thequestion of abandoning theadoption of the provisions of this act shall be submitted to a vote of thequalified electors of the township at any general election after the datesuch township has adopted the provisions of this act, whenever there shallhave been submitted to the board of county commissioners at least 60days prior to the date of any such general election, a petition signed byat least 20% of the qualified electors of such township.
