97.550 Local governments may acquire property for parks or playgrounds -- Appointment of park board -- Terms of office. (1) Cities of any class, counties, charter counties, and urban-county governments may acquire, by purchase or donation, property for the purpose of maintaining public <br>parks or playgrounds within the jurisdictional limits. (2) The city legislative body, the fiscal court, or the legislative body of a charter county or an urban-county government may appoint a park board of not more than eight (8) <br>persons, whose qualifications shall be prescribed by the city legislative body or <br>fiscal court, and whose terms of office shall be for two (2) years and until their <br>successors are appointed and qualified, except that three (3) members of the first <br>board appointed shall be appointed for terms of only one (1) year. The members of <br>the board shall not receive any salary for their services. The board shall be a <br>corporation with perpetual succession, and may, in its corporate name, contract and <br>be contracted with, sue and be sued, have and use a corporate seal, and alter or <br>renew it at pleasure.
