Retirement for accidental disability.

87.200. Upon application by the member or the chief of thefire department, any member who has become totally andpermanently incapacitated for duty as the natural and proximateresult of an accident occurring while in the actual performanceof duty or exposure while in the actual performance of duty inresponse to an emergency call shall be retired by the board oftrustees, if the medical board shall certify that the member ismentally or physically incapacitated for further performance ofduty, that such incapacity is likely to be permanent and that themember should be retired. If the accident occurred prior to thebeginning of the member's twentieth year of service, applicationfor benefits must be made before this time, except that theinterval between the date of accident and of application may beat least one year.
