Health care benefits for retirees, separate fund established forbenefit and premiums--application by retiree to be special consultant,compensation to fund benefits.

87.507. 1. The governing body of the city or county mayprovide or contract for insurance benefits to cover hospital,surgical and medical expenses for retirees under sections 87.495to 87.515, in an amount not to exceed one hundred dollars permonth for each retiree.

2. If the governing body agrees to provide benefitspursuant to this section, a separate account for hospital,surgical and medical benefits shall be established as part ofthe benefit reserve fund. All benefits and premiums shall betransferred from the general revenue fund of the association tothe benefit reserve fund for payment of hospital, surgical andmedical benefits.

3. Any retiree who is receiving benefits from the systemmay make application to the governing body to be named as aspecial advisor to the firemen's retirement association. Uponthe acceptance of such application, the governing body maydeposit in the fund created in subsection 2 of this section anamount not to exceed one hundred dollars per month for theapplicant and may make a monthly payment from the fund createdin subsection 2 of this section toward health care benefits forthe applicant as provided in subsection 1 of this section.
