Society's duties.

183.020. It shall be the duty of the society to collectbooks, maps and other papers and material for the study ofhistory, especially of this state and of the middle west; toacquire narratives and records of the pioneers, to procuredocuments, manuscripts and portraits, and to gather allinformation calculated to exhibit faithfully the antiquities andthe past and present condition, resources and progress of thisstate; to cause its collections to be properly bound andpreserved; to conduct a library of historical reference, and topublish from time to time reports of its collections and suchother matters as may tend to diffuse information relative to thehistory of this region; and to keep the rooms containing thecollections of said society open at all reasonable hours onbusiness days for the reception of the citizens of this state,without fee.
