Trustees may accept sewers or drains constructed by private persons.

248.170. The board of trustees created by this chapter, orthe authorities of the city, town or village, or the countycommission, shall have the power to accept from private personsor corporations any sewers or drains constructed by them beforeor after the organization of the sanitary district, and to allowan equitable credit for such sewers or drains; or to acquire thesame by process of law if needed; provided, that the sewers ordrains accepted, in plans, materials and construction, conform tothe plans adopted and approved by the board for similar work doneby said board; and provided, in the case of acceptance, that theamount allowed shall not exceed the amount assessable as aspecial tax against the property drained thereby, under section248.160. The title to or ownership of such sewers or drainsshall be considered as attaching to all lands actually drainedthereby in proportion to the areas of such lands, and the creditshall be allowed to the owners of record.
