249.900. 1. The board of directors of any sewer districtincorporated pursuant to the provisions of this chapter maypetition the circuit court of the county containing the majorpart of the acreage in the district for an amended decree ofincorporation to allow that district to engage in theconstruction, maintenance and operation of common public watersupply which serves ten or more separate properties and islocated wholly within the district and is not operated by anotherpolitical subdivision or is not located within the certificatedarea of a water corporation as defined in chapter 386, RSMo, orwithin a public water supply district as defined in chapter 247,RSMo, and the operation and maintenance of all such existingfacilities. The petition shall be filed by the board ofdirectors and all proceedings shall be in the same manner as inan action for initial formation of a sewer district except thatno vote of the residents of the district shall be required.

2. If the decree is amended the district shall, withinninety days after the order amending the decree, begin operationof the existing facilities which it has acquired by gift orotherwise and shall establish and collect user charges to bedetermined and established in the same manner as sewer rates.

3. All applicable provisions of this chapter shall apply tothe construction, operation and maintenance of water supply inthe same manner as they apply to like functions relating to sewerfacilities.
