A certificate of ownership for a motor vehicle or trailerissued in the name of only one person, on application of that person andpayment of the fee required for an original certificate of ownership, may besurrendered to and a new certificate issued by the director of revenue in thename of that person and one or more other persons; and the current validcertificate of number shall be so transferred into the names of the ownersshown on the new certificate.
