Director, powers of.

382.220. 1. Subject to the limitation contained in thissection and in addition to all the other powers with which thedirector is vested by law relating to the examination ofinsurers, the director may order any insurer registered under theprovisions of sections 382.010 to 382.300 to produce suchrecords, books, or other information papers in the possession ofthe insurer or its affiliates as shall be necessary to ascertainthe financial condition or legality of conduct of the insurer.In the event the insurer fails to comply with the order, thedirector may examine such affiliates to obtain such information.

2. The director may retain at the registered insurer'sexpense such attorneys, actuaries, accountants and other expertsnot otherwise a part of the director's staff as shall bereasonably necessary to assist in the conduct of the examinationunder this section. Any persons so retained shall be under thedirection and control of the director and shall act in a purelyadvisory capacity.

3. Each registered insurer producing for examinationrecords, books and papers pursuant to this section shall beliable for and shall pay the expense of such examination inaccordance with the provisions of section 374.220, RSMo.
