Exemptions.

650.230. 1. Sections 650.200 to 650.290 shall not apply tothe following boilers and pressure vessels:

(1) Boilers and pressure vessels under federal control orsubject to inspection or regulation by a federal or state agency;

(2) Pressure vessels used for the transportation and storageof compressed gases or liquefied petroleum gases which complywith the standards promulgated by the National Fire ProtectionAssociation as adopted pursuant to chapter 323, RSMo, or theUnited States Department of Transportation regulations, asappropriate to the use of the vessel;

(3) Pressure vessels located on vehicles operating under therule of other state authorities and used for carrying passengersor freight;

(4) Pressure vessels installed on the right-of-way ofrailroads and used directly in the operation of trains;

(5) Pressure vessels that do not exceed:

(a) Fifteen cubic feet in volume and two hundred fifty psigwhen not located in a place of public assembly;

(b) Five cubic feet in volume and two hundred fifty psigwhen located in a place of public assembly; or

(c) One and one-half cubic feet in volume or an insidediameter of six inches with no limitation on pressure;

(6) Pressure vessels designed for and operating at a workingpressure not exceeding fifteen psig;

(7) Vessels with a nominal water containing capacity of onehundred twenty gallons or less for containing water underpressure, including those containing air, the compression ofwhich serves only as a cushion;

(8) Boilers and pressure vessels located on farms and usedsolely for agricultural purposes;

(9) Any boiler constructed, reconstructed or maintained as apersonal hobby or for other recreation purposes; and

(10) Vessels containing water and operating as watersofteners, water filters, dealkalizers, demineralizers and coldwater storage tanks when:

(a) The temperature of the water in the vessel does notexceed one hundred twenty degrees Fahrenheit; and

(b) Heat is not applied to the water prior to entering thevessel or to the vessel itself; and

(c) The pressure of the water in the vessel does not exceedone hundred fifty psig; and

(d) The vessel does not contain any hazardous, toxic orexplosive material.

2. The following boilers and pressure vessels shall beexempt from the requirements of sections 650.260 to 650.275:

(1) Boilers or pressure vessels located in canneries andused solely for canning purposes;

(2) Steam boilers used for heating purposes carrying apressure of not more than fifteen psig, and which are located inprivate residences or in apartment houses of less than sixfamilies and steam boilers used for heating purposes carrying apressure of not more than ten psig and having a rating of not toexceed one thousand two hundred square feet of radiation;

(3) Hot water heating boilers carrying pressure of not morethan thirty psig, and which are located in private residences orin apartment houses of less than six families, and hot waterheating boilers carrying pressure of not more than twenty psig,and having a rating of not to exceed two thousand square feet ofradiation;

(4) Steam boilers of a miniature model locomotive or boat ortractor or stationary engine constructed and maintained as ahobby and not for commercial use, having an inside diameter notto exceed twelve inches and a grate area not to exceed one andone-half feet and that is equipped with a safety valve ofadequate capacity, a water level indicator and a pressure gauge;

(5) Hot water supply boilers operated at pressures notexceeding one hundred sixty psig, or temperatures not exceedingtwo hundred fifty degrees Fahrenheit which are located in privateresidences or in apartment houses of less than six family units;

(6) Service water heaters or domestic type water heatershaving a nominal water containing capacity not in excess of onehundred twenty gallons, a heat input not in excess of two hundredthousand British thermal units per hour and used exclusively forheating service water to a temperature not in excess of twohundred ten degrees Fahrenheit;

(7) Pressure vessels containing only water under pressurefor domestic supply purposes, including those containing air, thecompression of which serves only as* a cushion or airlift pumpingsystem, when located in private residences or in apartment housesof less than six family units.
