Section 21-K:19 Commission Members; Organization; Terms.


   I. The commission shall consist of the following members:
      (a) Three members of the house of representatives, appointed by the speaker of the house.
      (b) Three members of the senate, appointed by the president of the senate.
      (c) The state curator, or designee.
      (d) Two members from the Civil War Roundtable of New Hampshire, appointed by the governor.
      (e) One member from the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, appointed by the governor.
      (f) One member from the New Hampshire Veterans' Association, appointed by the governor.
      (g) Two members representing the public sector, appointed by the governor.
   II. Members of the commission shall serve without compensation except that legislative members shall receive mileage at the legislative rate while attending to the duties of the commission.
   III. The term of legislative members of the commission listed in subparagraphs I(a)-(c) shall be coterminous with their respective terms of office. Members listed in subparagraphs I(d) and (e) shall serve a 2-year term, and members listed in subparagraphs I(f) and (g) shall serve a 3-year term. Vacancies shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term and in the same manner as the original appointment.
   IV. The first-named house member shall call the first meeting of the commission within 45 days of the effective date of this section. The commission shall elect a chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, and treasurer at its first meeting. The commission shall meet at least twice annually, and at other times as deemed necessary by the chairperson.
