46:17-2.  Abstract entries by county recording officer;  access to and search or registry books
    The county recording officer of each county shall provide an appropriate book, well bound and lettered, for the registration of mortgages, and defeasible deeds in the nature of mortgages, of real estate situate in his county, in which he shall, upon the presentation to him of any such mortgages or defeasible deed, and upon the payment of the legal fees therefor, immediately enter an abstract of such mortgage or defeasible deed.  The abstract shall consist of the names of the mortgagor and the mortgagee, the date and the amount of the mortgage, when and how payable, the rate of interest, if any, the estate mortgaged, the descriptions and boundaries of the real estate mortgaged, and the signatures and certificates of acknowledgment of  the parties.  The county recording officer shall also note in the margin or at  the foot of each abstract, the day of the month and the year when the mortgage  or defeasible deed was delivered to him or brought to his office to be  registered.

    Every person shall have access to the registry book at proper times, and may  search the same, paying for such search the fees allowed by law.
