§ 136‑72.  Load limitsfor bridges; penalty for violations.

The Department ofTransportation shall have authority to determine the safe load‑carryingcapacity for any and all bridges on highways on the State highway system.  Itshall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to drive, operate or towon any bridge on the State highway system, any vehicle or combination ofvehicles with a gross weight exceeding the safe load‑carrying capacityestablished by the Department of Transportation and posted at each end of thesaid bridge.  Any person, firm, or corporation violating the provisions of thissection shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.
