§ 143‑151.55. Renewalof license; inactive licenses; lapsed licenses.
(a) Renewal. Alicense expires on September 30 of each year. A license may be renewed byfiling an application for renewal with the Board and paying the requiredrenewal fee. The Board must notify license holders at least 30 days beforetheir licenses expire. The Board must renew the license of a person who filesan application for renewal, pays the required renewal fee, has fulfilled thecontinuing education requirements set by the Board, and is not in violation ofthis Article when the application is filed. If the Board imposes a continuingeducation requirement as a condition of renewing a license, the Board mustensure that the courses needed to fulfill the requirement are available in allgeographic areas of the State.
(b) Late Renewal. TheBoard may provide for the late renewal of a license upon the payment of a latefee, but no late renewal of a license may be granted more than one year afterthe license expires.
(c) Inactive License. A license holder may apply to the Board to be placed on inactive status. Anapplicant for inactive status must follow the procedure set by the Board. Alicense holder who is granted inactive status is not subject to the licenserenewal requirements during the period the license holder remains on inactivestatus.
A license holder whoseapplication is granted and is placed on inactive status may apply to the Boardto be reinstated to active status at any time. To change a license frominactive status to active status, the license holder must complete the samenumber of continuing education credit hours that would have been required ofthe license holder had the license holder maintained an active license. Thenumber of continuing education credit hours required to return an inactivelicense to active status shall not exceed 24 credit hours. The Board may setconditions for reinstatement to active status. An individual who is on inactivestatus and applies to be reinstated to active status must comply with theconditions set by the Board.
(d) (Effective untilOctober 1, 2011) Lapsed License. The license of a licensed home inspectorshall lapse if the licensee fails to continuously maintain minimum net assetsor a bond as required by G.S. 143‑151.58. The license of a licensedassociate home inspector shall lapse if the licensee fails to continuously beemployed by or affiliated with a licensed home inspector as required by G.S.143‑151.58.
(d) (EffectiveOctober 1, 2011 until October 1, 2013) Lapsed License. The license of alicensed home inspector shall lapse if the licensee fails to continuouslymaintain the requirements provided in G.S. 143‑151.58(b). The license ofa licensed associate home inspector shall lapse if the licensee fails tocontinuously be employed by or affiliated with a licensed home inspector asrequired by G.S. 143‑151.58.
(d) (EffectiveOctober 1, 2013) Lapsed License. The license of a licensed home inspectorshall lapse if the licensee fails to continuously maintain the [insurance]requirements provided in G.S. 143‑151.58(b). (1993 (Reg. Sess., 1994), c.724, s. 1; 1999‑149, s. 1; 2009‑509, ss. 2.3, 3.5, 5.2.)
