§ 42-56.1-5 - Point system.

SECTION 42-56.1-5

   § 42-56.1-5  Point system. – The points (credits) needed to be acquired in order to achieve the variousincentive steps as set forth in § 42-56.1-3 shall be earned as follows:

   (1) One hundred twenty (120) points for a baccalaureatedegree in law enforcement (correctional major) in a university, college,technical institute, or other institution approved by the regional accreditingassociation of colleges and secondary schools.

   (2) Sixty (60) points for an associate degree in lawenforcement (correctional major) awarded by any institution approved by theregional accrediting association of college and secondary schools.

   (3) One point for each semester hour obtained in auniversity, college, technical institute, or other institution of learningapproved by the New England association of colleges and secondary schools foreach semester hour of credit obtained toward the degrees specified above;provided, however, that credit for elective courses outside the strict area ofthe major which may be required in a particular curriculum shall be deferredfor incentive payment purposes until the degree has been obtained. Uponsatisfactory completion of the degree requirements, retroactive payment shallbe made for the period during which incentive payment was deferred.

   (4) Credits shall be accepted for courses completed prior tothe passage of this chapter which are approved by the committee establishedunder the provisions of § 42-56.1-4.
