§ 46-9.1-2 - Definitions.

SECTION 46-9.1-2

   § 46-9.1-2  Definitions. – For the purposes of this chapter, and as used herein the following terms shallhave the following meanings:

   (1) "Block Island Sound" means the waters of the state westof a line drawn from the easterly point of Point Judith to the southeasterlypoint of Block Island and north of a line drawn from the southeasterly point ofBlock Island to the easterly point of Montauk Point, Long Island, New York.

   (2) "Block Island Sound pilot license" means a license issuedto a person to pilot vessels in Block Island Sound by the state pilotagecommission under the provisions of this chapter.

   (3) "Commission" means the state pilotage commission createdunder the provisions of chapter 9 of this title, as amended, entitled "Pilots."

   (4) "Concurrent register" means that every foreign vessel andevery American vessel engaged in foreign trade coming into and going out ofwaters common to the water boundaries of the State of Rhode Island and thewater boundaries of any other state or states shall be regulated by theprovisions of this chapter and the rules promulgated thereunder, and by theprovisions of the statute or statutes of any other state or states havingconcurrent jurisdiction with Rhode Island over the vessels and the rules andregulations promulgated pursuant to the other state or states statutes.

   (5) "Enrollment" means that every American vessel engaged incoastwise trade from one United States port to another United States port isenrolled with the United States Coast Guard, and every vessel is bound by therules and regulations promulated by the United States Coast Guard.

   (6) Register" means that every foreign vessel and everyAmerican vessel engaged in foreign trade coming into and going out of RhodeIsland Sound waters and Block Island Sound waters shall be regulated by theprovisions of this chapter and the rules and regulations promulgated thereunderby the commission.

   (7) "Rhode Island Sound" means the waters of the state northof a line drawn from the easterly point of Point Judith to the southwesterlypoint of Sakonnet Point.

   (8) "Rhode Island Sound pilot license" means a license issuedto a person to pilot vessels in Rhode Island Sound by the state pilotagecommission under the provisions of chapter 9 of this title.
