§ 2222. Findings

The legislature finds that it is desirable to alleviate unemployment and raise the income potential of Vermonters by broadening the economic base of the wood-using industry through promotion of greater and more profitable use of the state's native raw material, wood. It is the policy of the state of Vermont to encourage sustainable development and diversification of the forest products industry through market development, utilization assistance, and detailed inventories of wood availability and growth. Secondary processes will be encouraged to provide "value-added" through remanufacture, and the development of new wood-using industries will be promoted. A forest resource advisory council will be established to provide interdisciplinary review, analysis, and coordination, on policies, plans, and programs which will maximize the returns and benefits to Vermonters to be derived from the state's forest resource.
