§ 2321. Divisions established

For the purpose of promoting scientific and practical development in agriculture and home economics in the state of Vermont there are hereby established the following divisions:

(1) The division of resident teaching shall provide instruction in agriculture and home economics and related subjects to students attending the college to prepare them for farming and homemaking, teaching agriculture and home economics, extension service work, and for positions in the fields of research, government service, marketing, credit, supply distribution, foods and nutrition, clothing and textiles, and for other positions calling for college training in agriculture and home economics.

(2) The division of research, known as the Vermont agricultural experiment station, shall conduct research in accordance with the provisions of the act of Congress of 1887, known as the Hatch Act, and subsequent legislation, on problems connected with soils; land use and conservation; farm organization and management; feed crops, fruits, vegetables and other crops, dairy, poultry, and other livestock; crop and livestock diseases and pests; marketing, credit; and other problems relating to agriculture and problems relating to home economics; and it shall publish and distribute reports, bulletins and other publications, setting forth the results of such research.

(3) The division of extension, known as the Vermont agricultural extension service, shall carry information relating to agriculture and home economics to the people of the state by means of meetings, demonstrations, farm and home visits and other personal contacts, the press, bulletin distribution and otherwise, in accordance with the provisions of the act of Congress of 1914, known as the Smith-Lever Act, and subsequent legislation. Extension work is to be carried on with men, women, boys and girls through the work of extension specialists, county agricultural agents, home demonstration agents and boys' and girls' 4-H club agents, and others.

(4) The related services division of the agricultural college shall include inspection of feed, seed and fertilizer; maintenance of the college farms, poultry plant, orchard, and other like facilities; testing soils, milk, and other agricultural products upon request; diagnosis of diseases of plants and of poultry and other livestock; conduct of short courses and educational conferences; and other services.
