§ 15.2-1615.1. Manner of payment of certain items in budgets of sheriffs.

A. Whenever a sheriff purchases office furniture, office equipment,stationery, office supplies, telephone or telegraph service, postage, orrepairs to office furniture and equipment in conformity and within the limitsof allowances duly made and contained in the then current budget of any suchsheriff under the provisions of this chapter, the invoices therefor, afterexamination as to their correctness, shall be paid by the county or citydirectly to the vendors, and the Commonwealth shall monthly reimburse thecounty or city the cost of such items on submission by such sheriff to theCompensation Board of duplicate invoices and such other information orevidence as the Compensation Board may deem necessary. This procedure shallalso apply to the payment of the premiums on the official bonds of suchsheriffs, their deputies and employees, to the premiums on burglary and otherinsurance, and for any physical examinations required pursuant to § 15.2-1705for a sheriff and each of his full-time deputies at a rate specified by theCompensation Board.

B. The Compensation Board may allow as an expense allowance to the sheriff ofany county or city the cost of operation, maintenance and repair of a closedcircuit television system and all accessories thereto or of leasingelectronic security equipment or making repairs to the same, which system andequipment are installed in any jail under his control for the surveillance ofprisoners.
