§ 15.2-2115. Purchase of gas, electric and water plants operating incontiguous territory.

Whenever a locality leases or purchases any gas, electric or water plantoperating within territory contiguous to the locality, the locality soleasing or purchasing shall have all of the rights, privileges and franchisesof the person from which the property was leased or purchased and the powerto operate, maintain and extend service lines in all the territory which theplant so leased or purchased had the right to do. Any locality leasing orpurchasing any property hereunder shall be obligated to furnish, from theproperty so leased or purchased, or from any other source, an adequate supplyof gas, electricity or water to the consumers of any person whose plant wasleased or purchased. In the exercise of the powers granted by this section,localities shall be subject to the provisions of § 25.1-102 to the sameextent as are corporations.
