§ 33.1-233. Proceedings on report; notice to owners.

At the next meeting of the board of supervisors or other governing body afterreceipt of such report, unless the opinion of the board or other governingbody be against establishing or altering the road or bridge, they shallrequire their clerk to give written notice to the owner of the land on whichit is proposed to establish or alter such road or bridge at least five daysbefore the hearing to be held under § 33.1-235 of this Code informing theowner of the time and place of the hearing at which he may appear and presenthis views. Notice sent by registered or certified mail to the last knownaddress of such owner as shown on the current real estate tax assessmentbooks shall be deemed adequate compliance with this requirement. If thehearing is continued, notice shall be remailed. If the current real estatetax assessment books do not contain the name of the owner of the affectedland, notice of the hearing shall be published once each week for foursuccessive weeks in a newspaper having general circulation in the county.
