Lisenba v. People of the State of California, 314 U.S. 219 (1941)[1], was a case in which the United States Supreme Court upheld the death penalty where the defendant was held for over 24 hours, slapped and deprived of sleep and food, after which a confession was made. Defendant argued that the confession was coerced.
