TRIPS Agreement At A Glance
The TRIPS agreement was a type of international agreement that sought to establish rules and regulations regarding intellectual property. The agreement was created by the World Trade Organization. The TRIPS agreement is primarily concerned with copyrights and undisclosed information. It outlined the rights of music producers and performers and established laws regarding copyright infringement. In addition, the TRIPS agreement addressed patents, trademarks, and industrial design.
Each participating nation is required to meet the basic requirements outlined in this agreement in regards to copyright legislation. As a result, TRIPS has established an international standard for copyright legislation. For example, the agreement established a standard duration for which copyrights remain valid. Under this agreement, a copyright remains valid for 50 years following the creator's death. The TRIPS agreement has played an important role in combating copyright violations on an international level.
